Acceptance
Generally speaking people will not be turned down for health reasons and will be accepted on an Individual policy regardless of health status. Each year there is an Open Enrollment period when people can get onto a new plan.
Outside of the Open Enrollment period a person must experience a Qualifying Event to have the opportunity to shop for a new plan. Qualifying Events include losing other coverage (such as an Employer's plan) renewing on an existing individual policy, marriage, birth, divorce, adoption, and more.
